Duchess of Connaught

 The Duchess of Connaught, who is the wife of Canada's Governor-General, "has suffered a recurrence of peritonitis," according to an official bulletin. She was brought by special train from Ottawa and taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. "Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Connaught, has stood the journey from Ottawa well and is now resting comfortably as could be expected," according to the official statement. 

The Duchess is the former Princess Luise Margarete of Prussia, The Duke of Connaught is a son of the late Queen Victoria. His nephew, George V, is the current British sovereign. The Duke and Duchess of Connaught have three children: Margaret, who is married to the Crown Prince of Sweden; Arthur and Patricia. The younger two children are unmarried. 

The Duke of Connaught and Princess Patricia are at the hospital with the duchess. A ball at the Chateau Laurier has been canceled due to the Duchess' health. The Duke and Duchess and their younger daughter were scheduled to be the guests of honor at the gala. There is "a certain amount of anxiety" over the duchess's health and the rush to a Montreal hospital. The Duchess was previously treated in Ottawa.
